Top 10 Photos of 2014 - Photo #9: "Warp Drive"
"Warp Drive", Photo #9 of my top 10 photos of 2014, was taken on 22 November 2014 in an area called Shiodome here in central Tokyo. This area is full of modern skyscrapers not far from the bay.
I was actually on a photowalk tour put on by EYExploreTokyo. This particular photowalk was my first experience with the small company to see how it worked; I was a paying customer this time but I may start leading tours with them in the future. The walk is called Tradition and Modernity since it starts at a former imperial garden called Hamarikyu Garden. The garden is surrounded by modern skyscrapers such as this one.
I have no idea what the name of this building is. We were just walking by it and I looked up and noticed the patterns and the sharp point it ended in way up. I thought it would make a cool black and white piece.
I originally shot it vertically but when I began to process it back home, it turned it and thought it looked more dynamic. The title "Warp Drive" came to mind because it kind of looked like a giant monolithic space ship speeding through some kind of nebulous gas cloud. It was getting dark, so the lights inside and outside the building added to the coolness.
