Top 10 Photos of 2014 - Photo #10: "Fathomless Polis"
“Fathomless Polis” is the last of my top ten photos of 2014. This was taken on 28 November 2014 at 7:00am. The sunrise was in full force by that time. I usually take photos of the morning city just before the sun rises with its deep oranges and purples, but this time, the sun was in its spectacular glory; the rays spreading out over the megalopolis.
The city was almost in perfectly silhouette. The foreground was pretty black (not as black as the result), but I had an image of a vertical city with mysterious depths. Therefore, I darkened the foreground to almost black to give that feeling that there is more to the city than just the surface peaks of skyscrapers.
I originally added a fog filter to the bottom thinking it would add more mystery to the image, but on advice from my fellow apprentices in the Arcanum, I go rid of it and made the entire lower part of the image black.
For those wondering what some of the buildings, the thin tower just below the sun is Tokyo Tower, the skyscraper just the the left is Tokyo Midtown housing the Ritz Cartlon on the top floors, and the tall scraper a little ways to the right with what looks like small bat ears sticking up from the top is the Mori Tower of the Roppongi Hills complex.
