Top 10 Photos of 2014 - Photo #8: "Waking City"
Photo #8 "Waking City" was taken on 2 Nov 2014 at around 7:30 in the morning. I often get up early, and many times I am presented with an amazing city view from my window. This was one of those mornings. It wasn't a spectacular sunrise or stormy sky this time, but a subdued misty morning.
Because of the natural lack of real colour, I converted to black and white and added a bluish tone. I wanted to accentuate the mist snaking through the layers of skyscrapers in the distance and slowly dissipating up through those layers. The skyscrapers and Tokyo Tower were perfectly silhouetted against the struggling sun rising behind a wall of overcast.
I added this to my growing "Floor 23" collection. I take as many pictures as I can from outside my window because I do not want to take the beautiful view for granted. I will not always have this view (hopefully, I will only have better views from future abodes).
In case you are wondering, the large section of trees in the lower right is the grounds of Meiji Jingu (Meiji Shrine), which is basically theeee shrine in Tokyo. It is dedicated to Emperor Meiji, famous for the "Meiji Restoration" when the institution of emperor was "restored" back to its former glory of the days before the centuries of rule of the feudal Shogun. Emperor Meiji was pro-western and initiated a much more friendly relationship with the West. This is also the time when the emperor moved his power based from the old capital of Kyoto "Capital City" to Edo (Yedo), capital of the Shogunate, and renamed it Tokyo "Eastern Capital".
